Mariam Aryai Rivera is an independent jewelery designer from New York City, where she resides with her husband and two young boys. The Hand Of Fatima was born from a birth so to speak. In 2006 when Mariam's first son was born, it was not only a journey into new way of life, but an opportunity to rediscover her artistic self, using a completely new medium.
Having made the choice to raise her son at home, turned out to be the begining of a new profession.
Coming from a long line of artistic and crafty women, she was always surrounded by art and the appreciation it commands. As it turns out, accompanying your mother (who was an Art major), to The Met on the weekends so she could finish her degree when you were three, helps enhance the imagination.
Here at THOF the goal is to bring the grit, love, passion, fantasy and spectacle of the past into a romantic piece of quality costume jewelery. The fantastic part about this jewelery aesthetic, is that while you are wearing something absolutely unique to you, and you alone, you have partaken in upcycling, an eco-friendly practice.
The collections you will find here are absolutely 100% handcrafted by Mariam, and so much love, detail, and thought go into them.
You will encounter the stories and whispers of the Victorian era, the industrial revolution, the secret societies, the soldiers and saints that linger through the centuries.
The componets acquired to create this collection come from a personal collection...and obsession, as well as from estate sales and antique shops all over the U.S. and Europe (mostly these two).
This jewelry tells a story, however the patron finishes that story with their style and presence.
